On some models you can do this by turning three locking screws with a coin while on others you ll have to remove some screws. Check the condition of the drive belt and replace the belt if it s worn or broken. Then open the roller garage and remove the obstruction or debris from the brush roll.

Remove the brushroll and clean all hair string and lint from the brushroll bearings. Insert the head of a phillips screwdriver into the each of the four screws on the brush housing and turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen the screws enough to remove them. After removing all debris and obstruction close the roll of the garage and turn the vacuum back on. The scrap wood protects the bristles from getting crushed by the vice.

If the brushroll is sticking it will cause too much friction and put too much strain on the belt. It is important to drill the hole as close as possible through the center of the two pieces. Start by drilling a hole through the roller brush and splined shaft. If the vacuum cleaner brush still doesn t spin after you clean the brushroll consider replacing the brushroll.

Flip the vacuum over so the wheels are facing up. Remove the screws that secure the plate to the vacuum cleaner then remove the screws and the plate.

Pull one end of the roller upward away from the vacuum cleaner and slip the belt off the roller.
